Mo creates near stampede on Jet Blue flight to Boston by offering prime seats to Yankees-Red Sox game

"Just before they shut the doors on the full flight from Tampa to Boston, a JetBlue agent stepped into the plane. It seems that the passenger I'd nosed out of the last seat really needed to get to Boston and had a proposition. Even though, the agent announced, she knew that a Boston-bound flight was probably a Red Sox stronghold, There was practically a stampede of passengers trying to be the first to exit, and I flew back across the aisle from the greatest closer in baseball -- and maybe aviation too."... "mr_milkshakes says: Impetuous Beantowners should be ashamed of themselves. Mariano Rivera has 47 lifetime(probably higher) saves vs Red Sox. The entire plane should have stayed put. There was a time when a "grudge" meant something."....

Mo on WFAN with Mike Francesa

Mike Francesa interviews Mo on WFAN from Tampa

Mike asks Mo his opinion on Joba as starter vs reliever.
Mo does not answer right away but says if you were asking him as the
owner of the team, he'd say Joba to the 8th inning. On Phil Hughes,
he said he could do either.

Rivera most important piece to our championship-Teixeira

brief, past history of uncomfortable at-bats against the Yankees’ closer, and what Rivera still means to the club at age 40.

On Monday morning,..Rivera made his first delivery of the spring. He hadn’t thrown off a mound since getting the final 5 outs in game 6 of the World Series" (no save)....

"I think it took a good six weeks to two months," manager Joe Girardi said of the point where Rivera was at 100 percent. And Rivera admitted to doing "all my rehabbing in the season"....So after he recorded the final out of the ’09 season, Rivera basically put his arm on a shelf ...

  • "Throwing in the postseason all those years puts a lot of stress on the shoulder and your body," Rivera said. "So I want to recuperate the longer I can."...

"I know he’s a lot further along than he was at this time last year," Girardi said. "At times he couldn’t extend (his arm) early on in camp. He had none of those issues (Monday)."...

  • "It was always (an) uncomfortable (at-bat), because if he makes his pitch, I’m either going to break my bat or hit it foul," said Teixeira, who was 1-for-9 with a single off Rivera."...
"Mariano Rivera feels 'real good' after tossing bullpen session," 3/2/10 by Pete Caldera, The Record, published in the Boston Herald ****
  • Using the handy 'total save stat' alone to measure late inning relievers in certain cases erases much of their important work, whether regular or post season. Pitching 5 outs on November 4th is easily obliterated from history with use of the 'total save stat.' Officially, this game had no 'save', no 'chance' and no 'conversion' opportunity. It practically does not exist. ed.

Mo's first bullpen of 2010

Every day since, Rivera has thrown long-toss outside. Even as a chilly rain fell Saturday morning, Rivera threw with Edwar Ramirez....Ramirez was designated for assignment on Sunday, so Rivera warmed up Monday with another regular partner, reliever Dave Robertson."...Shpigel, NY Times, 3/1/10
