"Spike Lee on Friday morning made a surprise visit to Yankee Stadium
on Opening Day--of New York City’s newest COVID-19 vaccination
mega-site.
The “Do the Right Thing” director--who was there for a film shoot, not a vaccine shot –looked unassuming in a gray Yankees bomber jacket, khakis and baseball cap as he chatted with people queued up to get their first jab.
The Bronx Bombers mecca opened up for the first time Friday as a vaccination mega-sites after weeks of delays due to vaccine shortages.
The borough has posted one of the highest coronavirus positivity rates. Only Bronx residents will be able to be vaccinated there.
Several hundred people were lined up early to get the first shot of the two-dose vaccine.
Officials said they’d already administered jabs to a couple hundred people before mid-morning at the stadium, where appointments are fully booked for at least the next five days.
On Thursday, there were still thousands of open timeslots for appointments, City Councilman Mark Levine said, as he questioned whether the Big Apple has conducted enough outreach to drum up interest in the shots.
Two lines stretched from Gate 4, with one line was for people with appointments and the other for those without.

Two restaurant workers, Jennifer Andon, 27, and her father, Ruben, 50, also were waiting on line after signing up on the Somos Vaccinations website.
“My dad had an appointment at 8:10, it just needs to be more organized, especially in temperatures like these,” Andon said.
“It’s wintertime, it’s unorganized, but we’re more than grateful to
have the vaccine either way. I got the notification through the Citizen app. I literally went right away, I saw the link, I made the
appointment,” she said."

"Opening day at the Stadium in the Bronx came early this year.
The mass vaccination site at Yankee Stadium is now open, providing up to 15,000 appointments for Bronx residents in an area that is grappling with the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the five boroughs.
According to news reports, 13,000 appointments had been reserved by the time the site opened on Friday, Feb. 5.
"This effort to open the vaccination site was coordinated with SOMOS Community Care, a network of 25,000 physicians across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, the National Guard, New York City, and the New York Yankees....
Yankees President Randy Levine joined Cuomo at the Stadium on Friday, along with Yankees Manager Aaron Boone and Hall-of-Fame pitcher Mariano Rivera.
“I consider this my house,” Rivera said Friday. “I used to pitch here and save games, now this is about saving lives. This is greater than baseball. We’re talking about thousands and millions of people, and I walk around people there getting the vaccine, and I see so many smiles on faces, that’s what it’s all about. Hope is the name of the game right now.”
The mass vaccination campaign at Yankee Stadium will run from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week. Appointments are required to receive vaccination and it is exclusive for Bronx residents who are qualified Phase 1a and 1b New Yorkers.

Metallica performs 'Enter Sandman' on Super Bowl Edition of Colbert in front of speaker cabinets from events of past 20 years, including Mariano Rivera Day at Yankee Stadium, Sept. 22, 2013

"The metal icons rock out against a backdrop that captured their recent concert history."
"Metallica rocked a special Super Bowl edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Sunday night. The heavy metal titans offered up a rousing rendition of “Enter Sandman”, set against a special backdrop that paid homage to the band’s recent concert history.
Entering their 40th year as a band, Metallica sounded as strong as ever on the late-night performance, with frontman James Hetfield delivering a powerful vocal. The metal icons played in front of a stack of speaker cabinets from various tours and special concerts of the past 20 years, including shows at Yankee Stadium (“Mariano Rivera Day”) [on Sept. 22, 2013], Oracle Park (San Francisco Giants “Metallica Night”), and the band’s own 2013 Orion Music + More Festival in Detroit, among others.
The pandemic forced Metallica off the road in 2020, but the metal legends still made the most of the year. After entering rehab in late 2019 to deal with addiction issues, a healthy-looking Hetfield returned to the band for a series of special gigs. Over the summer, Metallica filmed a concert for a one-night screening at drive-in theaters across North America, and rocked a mini-set on The Howard Stern Show. In November, they played a livestream concert that benefitted the band’s All Within My Hands Foundation.
In addition, Metallica have been working on the follow-up album to 2016’s Hardwired...To Self-Destruct. However, drummer Lars Ulrich recently said the writing sessions are moving at a rather slow pace.
As of now, the only 2021 shows Metallica have scheduled are two headlining nights at the Aftershock festival, October 8th and 10th in Sacramento, California.
Metallica’s performance of “Enter Sandman” on Colbert followed the recent unveiling of a commercial for Ford’s new F-150 Raptor that features the iconic song. Watch the late-night gig and the Ford commercial below [now private]."
